Penny Townley is the managing director of Townley’s Environment Services and has more than 30 years’ experience providing strategic advice across a wide range of infrastructure projects, environmental and social change programs and planning projects.
Penny is known for managing highly contentious projects in sensitive, political environments.
Her experience spans transport, water, waste, energy, health, master-planned communities and the environment.
Penny is driven by developing and executing communication and community engagement strategies that meet the needs of stakeholders and deliver desired project results.
Her work has been recognised by awards from the International Society of Business Communicators, the International Public Relations Association and the Public Relations Institute of Australia. Penny has served as a Board member of the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia for five years. She is a Fellow of the Public Relations Institute of Australia and member of the International Association for Public Participation.
During her career Penny has held the positions of ANZ Market Segment Leader, Communication and Community, AECOM, Director, Infrastructure and Environment, Phillips Group Pty Ltd and Acting Environment and Planning Manager, SMEC Queensland.

James Townley, Director, Townley’s Environment Services is an experienced photographer and videographer. He has worked for more than 30 years’ across a number of sectors including the Defence Force, Australian movie industry and corporate sector.
His experience includes photography of Army, Navy and Airforce public relations including operational activities such as daily operations, joint defence exercises and special base activities on Macquarie Island and Hawaii.
His Australian movies include: Bliss, Breaker Morant, Gallipoli, The Year of Living Dangerously, The Earthling and many other international films and mini-series, such as Tanamera, and Sara Dane. He has been the official stills photographer of more than 40 film and television productions.
James’s corporate photography includes media and promotional events, client programs and functions.

Photography and photojournalism
Lisa Townley is a graduate of the Bachelor of Communications degree from Griffith University where she majored in photography and journalism, winning the University Medal of Excellence. As part of the course she was a member of an Australian delegation to Bangladesh involved in a bi-national initiative to record the daily life of citizens which resulted in the photo journalism publication “”Eyes on Sylhet”. She supports James Townley in photographic journalism initiatives through her business LJT Photography.
